PD James is pretty awesome, come to think of it. Adam Dagliesh, right? And she wrote Children of Men, I believe, too, which was amazing. Good call!

Question by Elizabeth: Mystery Books? Recommendations?
I love reaing mysteries. And I am looking for series/author recommendations.
I love: Sherlock Holmes, Janet Evanovich
Was Ok: James Patterson (Woman’s Murder Club), Sue Grafton, Patricia Cornwell (series started great but got weaker)
Hated: J.D. Robb, Kathy Reichs

I love mysteries with strong female leads, and I don’t mind leading men too. I am 18 so I want to enjoy a series I can connect with, you know. Reading about a 50 year old detective is not going to appeal to me. I love reading books with: detectives/cops, forensics, FBI, agents, etc.
So I am looking for great mysteries with likable leading characters. I love comedy/mysteries too! Lots of action is great also!

Can I recieve any recommendations?

Best answer:

Answer by MavistheMaven
Try Catherine Coulter’s FBI series. Strong female lead characters, some of whom start out not in the FBI and later end up there, depending on the book.

For belly laughs, try the Maggody series by Joan Hess.

What do you think? Answer below!

I have finished most of Janet Evanovich’s novels, including the Stephanie Plum series, Alex Barnaby, etc. I am looking for new authors to try, so I wanted to ask for some recommendations.

I love
-Mysteries
-Romance (not heavy)
-Comedy
-Action/Adv.
(Can be a combination)
I do not enjoy the fanatasy genre, including vampire/magic series like Twilight, or Harry Potter (plus I am too old to be reading those). I’ve also tried other mystery novels including Patricia Cornwell, Sue Grafton, James Patterson, J.D. Robb, and Kathy Reichs, but I did not enjoy any of them.

I am looking for books to enjoy, any suggestions will be helpful! Thank you!
