Can someone recommend me some books to read? Something like Janet Evanovich’s novels?

Question by Alex: Can someone recommend me some books to read? Something like Janet Evanovich’s novels?
I have finished most of Janet Evanovich’s novels, including the Stephanie Plum series, Alex Barnaby, etc. I am looking for new authors to try, so I wanted to ask for some recommendations.

I love
-Mysteries
-Romance (not heavy)
-Comedy
-Action/Adv.
(Can be a combination)
I do not enjoy the fanatasy genre, including vampire/magic series like Twilight, or Harry Potter (plus I am too old to be reading those). I’ve also tried other mystery novels including Patricia Cornwell, Sue Grafton, James Patterson, J.D. Robb, and Kathy Reichs, but I did not enjoy any of them.

I am looking for books to enjoy, any suggestions will be helpful! Thank you!

I love Janet Evanovich books too – I would suggest maybe any books by Carl Hiaasen (my favorite is Skinny Dip, Stormy Weather, Tourist Season) or I would try the Regan Reilly series books by Carol Higgins Clark. They both are sort of mystery books, but they both have a little romance and a little comedy thrown in.

I reccomend the Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters. You should read them in order, I found a chronological list

I would also recommend Dean Koontz – he writes a lot of different styles, but most of them include at least two or three of the elements you listed above. Start with Odd Thomas – it has some supernatural elements, but contains a good amount of humor and a beautiful love story – and Odd Thomas himself is just a great character. If you like to read thrillers, then you might also enjoy The Husband or The Good Guy – fast paced with some action and romance and plenty of intrigue.

For Action/Adventure, with light romance, try the Dirk Pitt series by Clive Cussler.

For Adventure/Romance, try the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon.

You might also like the Pendergast series by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. The books are a little unusual, but there is plenty of mystery and a several great characters.http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/p/douglas-j-preston/

An amazing adult book series is the dresden files. The first book is called storm front. It is a fantasy book, but that doesn’t really mean much. It is more romance/ humor. The main character is hilarious.

    hope i helped.

  5. Reading Queen says:

I love Meg Cabot (Heather Wells [upcoming movie]& Queen of Babble [upcoming movie], and tons of others), Sophie Kinsella’s (Shopaholic [soon to be movie] & Remember Me), Jennifer Weiner (Good in Bed & Certain Girls) and Emily Giffin (Something Borrowed & Something Blue) books. They are all great authors!

For a young adult/teen Meg Cabot’s young adult books. She is the best author. Also best selling. She wrote tons of books including the Princess Diaries (Movies based on her books), Mediator (upcoming movie), 1-800-Missing (TV show based on her books), All-American Girl (up coming movie), Jinx, Airhead and more. She has adult books too, so you can grow with her.
