With the passing of Robert B. Parker, who is left as America’s top mystery writer?

Question by Kevin k: With the passing of Robert B. Parker, who is left as America’s top mystery writer?
The American mystery writers are thinning out. Who is left out there to claim the throne? James Lee Burke? Lawrence Block? Sue Grafton? James Patterson? Patricia Cornwell?

Argue your case for your favorite American mystery writer. The only requirements are that they must still be alive as of Jan 20, 2010 and an American citizen by birth or naturalization.

  1. Stainless Steel Rat says:

That’s easy.James Patterson. He had nine books published last year. I am so sorry to hear that Parker died. I really liked the Jesse Stone stories, and I read “Appaloosa” before they even thought of making it into a movie. I’ll miss him. I think I have some thirty year old scotch around that I can use to toast his passing.
